CIBSE has appointed Arup as technical author for its guide – Good Practice Design Guide for Residential Heat Pumps.
Recognising the urgent need to develop guidance on the design, installation, operation and maintenance of heat pumps in multi-occupancy residential buildings, CIBSE has said that work on the new guide will begin immediately, with publication scheduled for late spring.
Climate change targets, and particularly the Government’s ambitious time scale to phase out gas-fired heating in new build housing from 2025, has focused close attention on heat pump technology.
Correct design, installation and operation of heat pump technology requires a very different skillset to the use of traditional gas fired heating systems.
The new guide is intended to bring together best practice and industry-wide advice for the use of practitioners and to address the all-important issue of user guidance for a technology that provides a very different experience for residents compared to traditional systems.
Arup will work as technical author under the direction of an expert CIBSE Technical Steering Group comprising industry stakeholders and representatives including developers, designers, installers, operators, manufacturers and building control professionals.
