Trafford Green Hydrogen recently revealed that Manchester is set to receive a huge boost to its hydrogen capabilities, with the submission of a planning application to develop the city’s first hydrogen fuel hub.
The company says that the 200MW hydrogen fuelling hub – based at the Trafford Low Carbon Energy Park – is set to be the largest in the UK, providing businesses in the Greater Manchester region with easy and convenient access to hydrogen fuel. This will support businesses that utilise hydrogen for transportation fleets or with heating requirements.
Construction of the hydrogen hub could begin early in 2022 with commercial operation slated for 2023, subject to the planning process and financing.
The hub is designed to produce and store hydrogen at scale and will also help integrate renewable energy on a regional scale through the storage of solar and wind energy.
This hub is being brought forward through agreements between Carlton Power and local stakeholders, comprising of Manchester Metropolitan University, Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), Trafford Council, Cadent Gas and Electricity North West.
“Trafford Park is set to become an exemplar of clean energy technologies being put to commercial use, placing Greater Manchester at the forefront of the green revolution and the UK’s energy transition.”
