The Association for Renewable Energy and Clean Technology (REA) has welcomed BEIS proposals to extend the Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (NDRHI) commissioning deadlines to help projects that are facing delays.

An additional 12-month extension will be given to the commissioning deadlines of all non-biomethane projects with eligible tariff guarantees (TG2, TG3) and extension applications – these will now have up to March 2023 to be commissioned.

The REA hopes the decision will be expanded to biomethane projects delayed by COVID-19 which do not meet eligibility under the Green Gas Support Scheme (GGSS).

Kiara Zennaro, Head of Heat and Green Gas Lead at the Association for Renewable Energy and Clean Technology (REA), said:

“For some time, the REA has been concerned that important developments could miss out due to the impacts of the pandemic, so this extension of the Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (NDRHI) commissioning deadlines will provide welcome support for projects that are facing delays.

“On behalf of our members, the REA has been in close contact with BEIS on this issue and we are grateful to the Government for making this decision.

“We hope that this will now be expanded to biomethane projects delayed by COVID-19 which do not meet eligibility under the Green Gas Support Scheme (GGSS).”
