HS2 Limited has signed up to support the Construction Leadership Council’s carbon reduction campaign.
It has confirmed that it will become a CO2nstruct Zero Business Partner, joining more than 80 organisations from across the sector who have committed to share good practice about how they are reducing carbon.
HS2 has already developed its own Net Zero Carbon Plan with new targets and commitments to make the project net zero carbon from 2035. It is the transport organisation to secure PAS 2080 accreditation and is said to be driving change with its requirement for a 50% reduction in carbon from its contractors.
It has already been selected to lead one of CO2nstruct Zero’s major interventions this year, developing a roadmap to move towards zero diesel construction sites.
HS2 Head of Environmental Sciences Neil Wait said: “As we design and build HS2, we’re working with our supply chain, industry groups and research organisations to implement low carbon materials, alternative fuels, renewable energy and new construction methods to reduce the carbon footprint of the programme and support the decarbonisation of the UK construction sector.”
