Ahead of an elemental webinar taking place on 25th January introducing some of the solutions that are part of the Wates Innovation Network, we spoke to speaker John Quinn from Photonomi about its HONE solar panels.

What types of buildings are the HONE panels suitable for?

HONE can and has been deployed on many building types to date – residential, social residential, commercial, hospitals, leisure, nursing homes, hotels and industrial. Typically, there is no building or campus we cannot provide a solution for.

How do HONE panels differ from standard solar PV?

Solar PV is a traditional product for solar farms which has found its way into the built environment, the criteria for solar farms and the built environment are different.

HONE is solely designed for the built environment and as such has higher energy density and does NOT need to face south OR be installed at a particular angle.

HONE also makes heat & power in the same product and heat makes up about 70% of a building’s energy requirement. HONE Thermal/Electric panels are certified to produce 7 times more kWh per sqm than standard Solar PV thus delivering 7 times more kWh per roof installation.

Aside from renewable heating/energy, what are the other benefits?

Achieving Net Zero and better is easy with HONE and the projects are simple and non-disruptive whether new build or retrofit. No new skills over traditional skills are required and the cost can be 50% lower than any other method trying to achieve Net Zero.

How have you found being part of the Wates Innovation Network?

The Wates Innovation Network is very proactive and we are very pleased to be a part of it.

John Quinn is speaking on the panel of an elemental webinar on 25th January, on the subject of smart solutions for energy-efficient buildings. He will be speaking alongside other members of the Wates Innovation Network – Altecnic and iOpt – in a session chaired by Wates’ Tom Sowerby.
