A mixed residential and commercial development next to the Oval cricket ground in London will benefit from improved air quality after the installation of 700 fan coil units incorporating a high degree of filtration.
The development by Berkeley Homes Central London will see 1,332 new homes across seven residential buildings on the 3.2 hectare site, along with a new Tesco, and more than 15,000 sq m of community, commercial, office and retail space. The project is on the site of the Oval Gasholders, built in 1847, which were a feature familiar to cricket fans around the world
In the first phase of Oval Village opened in September 2023, the 286 Manhattan, one, two and three-bedroom apartments feature the bespoke Comfort Line FCUs from CIAT.
The units feature the manufacturer’s proprietary Epure air purification technology, which the manufacturer says provides a reduction of 50% to 90% in particulate matter, ensuring that PM2.5 particulate concentration is below the limit recommended by the World Health Organization of 10 µg/cu m.
Cameron Malcolm, Managing Director of contractor Malcolm Building Services said:
We chose the CIAT units because they could support the simple control method specified. They redesigned the units to accommodate collapsible filters to assist with small access hatches, as well as extended drain trays. Comfort Line is a good solution for customers seeking solutions that meet the latest requirements for comfort, energy optimisation and indoor air quality.
The extended drain trays accommodate the larger valve arrangements specified for the project and ensures no condensation damages the ceiling via the enclosed ceiling void, the manufacturer added.
The FCUs include variable speed fan motors to reduce operating costs and are also registered under the PEP (Product Environmental Profile) ecopassport. The manufacturer also notes it adheres to the EuroVent certification programme, which certifies the technical performance ratings stated on products.
