Our second digital festival on decarbonising social housing takes place in December, with all sessions available to watch live on our Crowdcast channel.
The series of free-to-attend sessions runs from 13th to 15th December, covering topics including tackling hard-to-treat homes, optimising heat pumps for social housing and the different heating options available for housing providers.
Retrofitting hard-to-treat properties – 10am, 13th December
Around 80 to 85% of today’s homes are likely to still be standing in 2050 – and some of these homes are considerably harder to improve than others. This session will look at the constraints that make these homes a challenge to decarbonise and what can be done by social landlords to make hard-to-treat properties more efficient and cheaper to run.
Speakers
- Fallon Warren, Net Zero Carbon Building Surveyor/Retrofit Coordinator, Orbit Group
- Mark McArthur, ECO Support Manager, Energy Saving Trust
- Robert Prewett, Director, Prewett Bizley Architects

Maximising energy efficiency in housing retrofit – 11am, 14th December
Housing decarbonisation means improving an existing building’s energy efficiency, but what does this actually mean to social landlords – and their residents? This session will look at the energy-efficiency measures, technologies and solutions that can be deployed, and how housing providers can get maximum results for their investment.
Hosted by Chris Ricketts

Optimising heat pumps for social housing – 3pm, 14th December
In association with Altecnic
Heat pumps will be a key tool to decarbonise housing, while enabling social landlords to keep residents’ bills down and reduce their carbon footprint. This session will look at how housing providers can get the most out of this technology, with practical examples of how heat pump installation can be optimised for social housing.
Hosted by Jim McClelland
