The Scottish Government’s energy-efficiency support and advice service for SMEs will continue as Business Energy Scotland from 1st April 2022.
It will provide a free advice and support package to Scottish SMEs to help improve energy efficiency and decarbonise heating in their premises.
The two main offers of support are:
- An initial ‘energy opportunities’ assessment to identify where and how savings can be made.
- A comprehensive report including a potential site visit to highlight possible improvements and sources of funding.
The service will be managed by Energy Saving Trust and become part of the suite of energy advice and support already delivered via Home Energy Scotland (the domestic energy advice service) and Local Energy Scotland (providing support to community organisations).
The Scottish Government’s Heat in Buildings Strategy announced the new service in October 2021 as part of action to align the delivery of public schemes and help reach the nation’s ambitious net zero targets.
Using a mix of one-to-one telephone support and a range of online tools and resources, the service offers free and impartial advice and support to SMEs to reduce their energy use and costs, as well as cut carbon. Financial support is also available through the Scottish Government’s SME loan and cashback scheme, which offers up to £100,000 to support the implementation of carbon-saving measures such as renewable heating and insulation, with up to £20,000 cashback available in some instances.
