Centrica is inviting communities and social entrepreneurs – in the North East, Yorkshire, and The Humber – to apply for a grant of up to £100,000 through its Energy for Tomorrow (EfT) social impact fund for initiatives that can deliver affordable, accessible, and sustainable energy solutions.

More than 20 projects have benefited from funding of over £3.5 million since the launch of EfT.

EfT Programme Manager Sarah Wright said: “We’re looking for projects that can accelerate the energy transition and build a more inclusive future for our country. Whether it’s £20,000 to install an electric vehicle charging point in your community centre, or £100,000 to fund a transformational new community energy tool, if you’re a community change maker, we want to hear from you.”

The social impact fund derives revenue from the feed-in- tariffs of solar panels installed by Centrica on over 250 schools across the UK. The solar panels currently save each school almost £2,500 each year, collectively offsetting 1,500 tonnes of CO2. Since their installation, the schools have saved just over 14,000 tonnes of carbon and generated £4.5 million of savings which is equivalent to buying around 700,000 textbooks.

Applications for the fund close on 31st March, more info available: centrica.com/sustainability/energy-for-tomorrow
