Panasonic has joined forces with smart thermostat specialist tado° to offer a whole house heat pump solution that promises to save 30% in energy costs.
The manufacturer announced the partnership at the Mostra Covegno exhibition, along with a new heat pump range for larger multi-occupancy buildings and light commercial applications.
The partners said that customers will benefit from specifically tailored heat pump management software that optimises Panasonic heat pump settings automatically and shifts its electricity demand to times when renewable energy is available and prices are low.
The vision of this partnership is for heat pump customers to achieve unprecedented levels of energy efficiency while optimising their comfort at room level, they said. Together, the two companies also will offer the Aquarea heat pump products with specifically tailored management software that is capable of automatically optimising settings. It will also allow homeowners to take advantage of lower electricity prices by shifting when they use it to times when there is more renewable energy available. Customers in Germany and Austria will also be offered tado°s dynamic aWATTar energy tariffs to further reduce their heating bills.
The two firms said:
This partnership will help make heat pumps more affordable and attractive because the energy savings will help offset the up front investment more quickly, while making strides in cutting a home’s carbon footprint.
Christian Deilman, co-founder and CPO at tado° said:
We need to super-charge the green energy transition. Heat pumps are highly efficient climate-friendly heating systems and we are excited to work with Panasonic because the savings made through our cutting-edge home energy management solutions means customers recoup their initial financial outlay more quickly.
Panasonic and tado° aim to launch the package of Aquarea air-to-water heat pump and tado° multi-room control with smart energy management software in selected European markets this winter to achieve ‘market-leading energy savings and comfort.’ The launch date and details of the joint offering will be communicated in the coming months.
The Big Aquarea T-CAP M Series is available in sizes ranging from 20-30kW, but has the capability to scale up to 300kW in cascade. Up to 10 units can be seamlessly connected, providing sophisticated flexibility in system design, the firm says.
The M Series features R290 refrigerant and a modular design. Panasonic’s proprietary T-CAP technology maintains the capacity even at -20 deg C outdoors without the use of an electrical heater. One T-CAP unit can provide the same capacity at low temperatures as two other units without T-CAP technology, reducing the cost of materials and installation, and saving space, the firm says.
The units, manufactured in Europe, are designed to maximise the performance of the Panasonic Inverter Compressor, converting this in a highly efficient and cost-effective solution for maintaining indoor comfort, with COP up to 4.66 at 7/35, and it can even sustain capacity at 55 deg C water outlet down to -15 deg C outdoor temperature.
Users can choose from remote control only or a control module for enhanced functionality. The Big Aquarea includes Wi-Fi connectivity for Aquarea Smart Cloud and Aquarea Service Cloud, multiple PCB features, demand control SG Ready, and can provide new cascade control and several BMS protocol options.
